Phi Omega annually awards scholarships to high school seniors who plan to matriculate at a four-year college or university. The scholarship awards are intended to provide African- American females an opportunity to achieve their post-secondary educational pursuits.
The 2019 Scholarships were awarded in two categories:
1. Phi Omega Scholarship - awarded to two (2) female high school seniors in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, community service, and leadership.
2. Pearl Scholarship - awarded to two (2) female high school seniors who meet the above criteria but must attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. recognized scholarship recipients during a reception on Sunday, August 4, 2019, on the campus of Winston-Salem State University. The ceremony was organized by Co-Chairs, Stephanie Dance-Barnes and Felicia A. Tubbs and the 2019 Scholarship Committee. The ceremony began with a Welcome by Mertice Williams, Occasion by Seleena Frazier, Prayer by Sabrina Hinton and Photographer Nora Baker; all members of the scholarship committee. The guest speaker, Breylnn Wray, Hampton University Student and 2017 scholarship recipient delivered encouraging words of advice to the present awardees.
Stephanie Dance-Barnes, Scholarship Committee Co-Chair, presented the Phi Omega Scholarships to Danielle Allen (was not in attendance) who will attend North Carolina A&T State University and Sommer Stephens who will attend North Carolina State University. She presented Pearl Scholarships to Alaya McCarter who will attend North Carolina A&T State University and Kayla Horton who will also attend North Carolina A&T State University.
Chapter President Irma Richardson gave some words of wisdom as final remarks. A reception followed the ceremony where awardees, along with their family members, mingled with guests and other members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Other participants and members of the Scholarship Committee are: Deidra Brown, Carol Crocker, Beth Day-Hairston, Angla Evans-Everett, Deborah Grace, Natalie Harding, Monica Johnson, Jeanette Lewis, Brianca Malloy, Carol Mitchell, Pamela Robinson, Flaciea Sanders, Velma J. Simmons, and Maxine J. Whitney.
